The Milwaukee Brewers jumped on Cub starter Chris Rusin for five runs in the bottom of the first inning at Miller Park on Wednesday evening.  The would then coast to victory earning themselves a 7-0 win and guaranteeing themselves a series win.  They will have the possibility to sweep tomorrow.

It started with an Aramis Ramirez single to plate Jean Segura and give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  Then, with the bases loaded, the seven batter, Sean Halton, took a 3-2 fastball that was up and out over the plate to right field and over the fence for a grand slam.  This gave the Brewers the early 5-0 lead.

The action would pick back up in the four inning when Khris Davis hit a solo home run to left center to extend the Brewer lead to six.  An inning later, Carlos Gomez doubled off the left field wall to score Norichika Aoki and give the Brew Crew a 7-0 lead that they would hold on to.

This now puts the Cub losing streak at five and with how they have been performing, it doesn’t look like it will end anytime soon.  Over the last five games the Cubs have scored a total of seven runs.  I think we have a classic case of a team just giving up rather than try to finish out the year strong.

The Cubs totaled four hits and they came from two players.  A couple of lefties, Ryan Sweeney and Nate Schierholtz, each had two hits in four trips for the Cubs.

The Brewers didn’t have a player with multiple hits, but were led by Sean Halton’s grand slam and the pitching of Tyler Thornburg.

Thornburg went six innings, gave up two hits, and no earned runs.  Jimmy Nelson and Michael Blazek were solid out of the pen for the Brewers.  The pair combined for three innings pitched and just two hits surrendered.

Chris Rusin was the starter for the Cubs and as I mentioned previously he was tagged early.  Rusin was able to get through just four innings.  During that time he gave up four hits and six earned runs.  Rusin’s ERA exploded from 2.85 to 3.52.

Chang Yong Lim and Blake Parker each worked inning in which they gave up no hits and struck out two batters.

This series will conclude tomorrow in an afternoon game at Miller Park.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM CDT.  The starters for the game are scheduled to be, Kyle Lohse (10-9) for the Brewers and Jake Arrieta (3-4) for the Cubs.
